You don't realise how fast the moon moves until you're chasing it with a camera.  By the time I finish writing this journal, I will have had to move my lens at least three times.  The eclipse has a beautiful reddish tinge, and I've spent the last hour or two snapping frame after frame of that celestial body as it becomes more and more obscured by the shadow of the earth.  Hopefully, I will end up with some photos worth posting;  many of them look beautiful in my preview screen, but I can't use that as a gauge for how they will actually look.  I sxhould finish this up now, and go back to shooting.  I've got a warm glass of whiskey, a fire roaring in the stove, and a memory card half full of images of a glowing orb in the sky.

Life is good.

A Christmas Story

When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure.

Then Mrs. Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more.

When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where.

Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.

Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drunk all the cider and hidden the liquor.

In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom.

Just then the doorbell rang, and an irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree.

The angel said very cheerfully, "Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?"

And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree.

Not a lot of people know this.

In other news, i have a metric shitload of pics to upload, taken over teh last few years.  mostly, i was too lazy to sort them out before, but i starded burning stuff to disc a few months ago and have been sorting through them.  I also have a rather philosophical blurb to upload

It's currently 12F outside the shop.  I don't have a wind gauge, but the local municipal airport--about 15 miles as the crow flies--says it's gusting 21kts.  It's windier up here, so I'm going to guess closer to 25kts. It's also about 60% humidity.

All this means that the wind chill up here is about -5F, and all the big trucks (me) and rigs are getting blown around something scary.

On the plus side, the barometric pressure is pretty stable (slight downward trend), so we probably wont have a storm today.  Maybe some flurries. Also, my truck has a pretty good heater once the engine heats up.

As for life, other than work--we just went to winter hours, 10-12hr shifts. Fun, right?--I've been harassing , trying to moderate a contest over at (when dA lets me post blogs, anyway), procrastinating about posting pics to dA, and playing a FREE(!!!) MMO called Perfect World (PWI).  It's a Korean MMO which appears at first to be similar to WOW (shudder)...until you realize that the community is as a whole nicer, and the gameplay is better (IMO), though there are some really annoying glitches (free-to-play, what do you expect?) link here: pwi.perfectworld.com if you wanna play. ETA: Just got back from retrieving lunch, by the time I got from the shop door to the truck--about 10 feet--I couldn't feel my hands. It's flurrying now too.
